Training Tip – Sidle to mounting block left and right

Training your horse to come to the mounting block for me is an essential technique. To train them to come on either side is not only a good technique but also fun and helps them, and us, to be more symmetrical. I taught Bella to sidle on the left when we started to back her last September. Coming over on the right I started a couple of weeks ago I think and now it’s fun to try either…or both…

Bella Agility Video – 8

No video this time around.

This time with our Agility I decided to try it first at Liberty…just for fun and to see what would happen. I wanted to see what our connection was like, would she follow me, would she ask questions and try things out or would she be needing to be with Stormy or run off?? Here is what happened in pictures….

  1. Weave
  2. Feet in hulahoop
  3. Curtain
  4. Jump
  5. Tarpaulin
  6. Trot poles
  7. Cone fig 8
  8. Labyrinth
  9. Water tray
  10. Distance touch nose to barrel

Afterwards I decided it was a good time to try riding some of the obstacles and again she was brilliant 😉

Training Tip – Head Down (and bridle whilst sitting)

This is putting the ‘head down’ task to the purpose of bridling whilst sitting down. Bella has been learning to put her nose into the noseband with a bit of head down but her head has to be much lower when I sit down to do it SO this is the next stage of training for this with the goal to be a refined, good version…it is a work in progress 😉
